Church of England

Baptism is the sacrament where people (of all ages) are welcomed into the family of God. Promises are made to follow the way of Christ and the wider community promises to welcome and walk with the baptismal candidates on their journey of faith.

Baptism in the Church of England uses many signs and symbols:

The sign of the cross: the invisible badge of faith on the Christian journey

Water: a sign of dying to sin and rising to new life; of being washed clean

A lighted candle: a symbol of walking in the light of Christ

The Christenings Project offers guides for parents and godparents, as well as ideas to help parishes engage creatively with baptosm families.
